The building of the Institute of Gorenje Problems

George Ivanovich Xandopulo
Honorary Director of the Institute of Gorenje Problems,

Mansurov Zulkhair Aimukhametovich
Scientific supervisor Gorenje Institute of Problems of Combustion
History
In April 1988, on the initiative of Professor G.I. Ksandopulo, the Kazakh Intersectoral Scientific and Technical Center for Self-Propagating High-Temperature Synthesis (KazMNTC SHS) was established on the basis of the Department of Chemical Kinetics and Combustion of KazSU named after S.M. Kirov (now al-Farabi KazNU). In accordance with the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR dated July 24, 1990, No. 295, and the instruction of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR dated May 27, 1991, No. 24-17/40-71, it was renamed as the Institute of Combustion Problems.
In accordance with the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated February 7, 2008, No. 119, the Republican State Enterprise under the right of economic management “Institute of Combustion Problems” was established under the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The founder of the Institute of Combustion Problems is Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor, and Laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Georgiy Ivanovich Ksandopulo.
The Institute of Combustion Problems is the only scientific institution in Kazakhstan that conducts research on both applied and fundamental aspects of combustion.
The Institute of Combustion Problems produced materials for industrial enterprises at its own production facilities: welding electrodes, acid-resistant powder for thermal power plants, a new refractory material known as “Furnon” in refractory practice, fuel briquettes, and fire-extinguishing powders.
The scientific achievements of the Institute were presented at international exhibitions in San Diego (December 1995), India (January 1996), and Geneva (1989). The refractory material “Furnon” (“Thermok”) was awarded a silver medal.
The Institute participated in the organization and hosting of various symposia in Almaty: the Symposium on the Inhibition of Chain Gas Reactions, the Mendeleev Congress, the 6th All-Union Symposium on Combustion and Explosion, the 1st Symposium on Macrokinetics, the International Symposium on Flame Structure, the International Symposium on SHS, and the 1st International Symposium on Combustion and Plasma Chemistry.
